Büyükelçinin Mesajı

Distinguished visitors,

Welcome to the official website of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Tirana.

Having presented my letter of credentials as of 16 January 2018, I am honoured to officially take up my functions in Albania, one of the most beautiful countries in the Balkans and even in the region, with its pleasant air, unspoiled nature, cultural assets and marvelous coastlines where the Mediterranean, Adriatic and Ion Seas embrace each other.

We take Albania as a brotherly country where our sincere friendship ties date back to the 14th century. Throughout the centuries, Turks and Albanians walked together. Our socio-cultural similarities reflected in language, family ties, social structure, cuisines and lifestyle, emanating from our shared history, even continue at present. Many prominent figures in our common history greatly contributed to the intellectual, political, administrative and military progress both in Turkey and Albania. Moreover, millions of Turkish citizens of Albanian origin currently living in Turkey are concrete examples of the inseparable bonds between our peoples.

Shortly after the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, one of the first treaties of friendship was concluded with Albania. This treaty entitled “Treaty of Eternal Friendship and Cooperation” demonstrates that our relationship is not merely an inter-state, but a people-to-people relationship. Although we do not share geographical borders, we consider Albania as a neighbour from the heart.

Turkey’s policy towards the Balkans is shaped by the principles of “regional ownership”, “inclusiveness”, “enterprising” and “putting emphasis on humanitarian and conscientious dimensions”. Turkey has a rational perspective towards all countries in the Balkans, desiring that all countries in the region attain welfare, security, peace, tranquility, and justice.

In this respect, during my tenure in Albania, together with my staff, inspired by our deeply rooted common past, we have the aspiration and determination to build up a common future that will serve for the benefit of both sides, complemented by concrete projects and cooperation mechanisms.

We envisage to further strengthen our strategic political relations, which are advancing with a spirit of trust through high level and technical visits. We are in close cooperation with Albania, which is in a key position for the stability and security of the Balkans and Europe, on various global and regional issues. In this regard, we support the courageous and determined steps taken by Albania and sincerely wish to see Albania as a member of the EU at the end of this process.

In the field of economic and commercial relations, as of the end of 2017, the bilateral trade volume between Turkey and Albania has reached to 460 million dollars and Turkey now ranks as the 5th biggest trade partner of Albania. As emphasized by our President, His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his visit to Albania on 13 May 2015, as a first step, we target to increase our bilateral trade volume above 1 billion dollars.

Moreover, approximately 10.000 Albanians work in the Turkish companies, which have investments in strategically important sectors for Albania, such as energy, banking, telecommunications, logistics, mining, infrastructure, and construction. The total amount of our investments in Albania, including infrastructure is currently around 2,7 billion. Turkish companies are currently among the top-ranking companies in foreign direct investors. We would like to increase our contribution to the welfare, development and reform process of Albania by diversifying our economic and commercial activities in the country.

Likewise, we encourage to enhance interaction between our peoples, contacts between our respective universities, governorates, and municipalities, as well as intensify cultural activities. We are pleased to see the interest demonstrated to Turkish and Albanian languages and cultures of our respective countries.

I and my staff are determined to do our best to further develop the already excellent bilateral relations in all areas including political, economical, commercial, cultural, military and security fields.

We will always be at your service, together with our Offices of Military Attache, Commercial Counsellor, Education Counsellor, Religious Affairs Counsellor and also with our Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Yunus Emre Institute and Turkish Maarif Foundation.

I sincerely hope that 2018 would bring more prosperity and welfare to our countries and our friendly and brotherly peoples and extend my heartfelt greetings to our distinguished visitors, personally and on behalf of my staff.
